Image Target does nothing on HL

January 19, 2017 - 1:09pm #1

Hi all, I've built a simple Vuforia app to recognize an image target and pop up a hologram (somewhat based on this tutorial https://www.sitepoint.com/how-to-build-an-ar-android-app-with-vuforia-and-unity/).  I've done this successfully in an Android app using the same image target as well as object targets.

When I run the app in HL, it doesn't do anything when I look at the image printout.  Does anyone have ideas of what I should double check?  I've followed the instructions on integrating Vuforia with HL (https://library.vuforia.com/articles/Training/Developing-Vuforia-Apps-for-HoloLens), e.g. enabled extended tracking, set up the eyewear type, linked ARCamera to HoloLensCamera.  What would be stopping this from working??  I've tried rebuilding the app many times using different versions of the assets, too...

I'm using Unity 5.5.0f3, the latest version of Vuforia from Unity Asset Store, and the latest packaged release of the HoloToolkit from GitHub.  Also, can someone confirm that the "Digital Eyewear" option for getting a license key no longer exists?

Anyone find a way around this problem? I've got to believe other people are having the same problem as me, that the computer's webcam is used instead of the Hololens camera.

I'm a little closer to getting something to work.

I just noticed that it's my webcam (!) and not my Hololens that is doing the image detection!

When the image is recognized (by the webcam!), I can get a particle system (that is a child of the ImageTarget) to play.

Unfortunately, when the child of the ImageTarget is a simple 3D cube, I can not get it to display. However, the webcam still recognizes it, as I can see the cube's transform matrix update in real time when I move my image target in front of the webcam.

So, two lingering issues:

(1) Why is computer's webcam being used and NOT the Hololens? I've poured over the settings can can't find where this is set. (Or a Hololens setting is missing.) Can anyone reading this figure this part out?

(2) Even with image detection working on the webcam, why can a particle system be made visible, but not a simple cube? The transform and scale of the cube looks correct, so I would expect it to be visible.

I will continue to try things and report on this thread.

Same problem. Wish I could be of help. I've tried sooo many things, and went over every setting I could find. I've tried every tutorial I could find online to see if I'm missing a setting.

I tried using the ImageTarget prefab, and also a more manual attempt of a Quad with the ImageTarget script attached to it. (I tried the latter because one tutorial online does something similar.) Neither works.

I've tried recreating the image on Vuforia's website. This did not help.

I tried using a more reasonable scale. I'm using a CD cover as an image, so I tried the image width of 0.1 meters, which is pretty close to spot on. This did not help.

I've tried running on the Hololens from within Unity, and tried building a VS2015 project and running on the Hololens from there. Neither worked.

I can't decode Console messages. They say things like "Found Trackable...with id..." and "Trackable... lost". Also, "Creating a Null Camera Configuration", which seems suspect.

I've recreated the project and created a new scene about 10x now, each time hoping a fresh start would uncover a setting I missed. I've restarted Unity and restarted the computer. Nothing works.

Hi All

I have the same Problem as you.

I recognized one big different when I run the Sample or my Project:

The LED (HoloLens is filming) is off during my project and on during the sample?

Can somebody prove that?

I'm having the same problem, have you managed to fix it yet?

And if so, could you tell me what you did to fix it?

Kind regards,

I'm having a similar problem. I can confirm the Vuforia Sample found here https://developer.vuforia.com/downloads/samples works correctly. I can see the teapot and manipulate its position with my image in the real world. My own simple hello world app can not seem to achieve any semblance of displaying the hologram however.

I did find a few issues with my target image from my database being set to "single target" rather than default when examined in unity. This tutorial here http://next.reality.news/how-to/hololens-dev-102-add-holographic-effects-your-vuforia-imagetarget-0175283/ helped me correct that difference, but overall still no success. I have also tried using the built in databases and images included in the Vuforia asset, thinking my issue was with the database or images i was uploading. No luck there either.

I have even tried having the 2 projects open side by side and comparing each individual scene object and project setting for differences.

I am also using Unity 5.5.0f3, the latest version of Vuforia from the Unity Asset store, and I have followed the Hololens Unity configuration steps provided by Microsoft to the T. other "non Vuforia" hololens Hello World apps work, I just can't seem to get this one off the ground.

Did you managed to get it working? I seem to be having the same problem.

Great, that answers part of my question, but I'm still having issues.  I'll retry the HoloLens sample and see if I can get that working...

Hello,

I can confirm that with the 6.2 Vuforia release license keys have been unified. There is no longer a concept of mobile key or eyewear key.

Thanks.
