Trouble with Vuforia's version

Hello

 

I'm currently trying to develop an app for HoloLens using Vuforia

I manage to do a small app with Unity 2017.2.1f1 and the legacy version of Vuforia (6.2.10) found here : https://developer.vuforia.com/downloads/sdk

On this app, I manage to do the image recognition and put a cube on it, but the thing is, the hologram is not stable , not fixed to the image target. It seems like everytime I'm moving my head, the hologram is following the movement. Also, it appears that the holograms is kind of half inside of the image target, even if in Unity i've put it on the top of the image target.

I tried to make a new app using Unity 2018.1.0f2 and Vuforia 7.1.31, but I don't really understand of to make the app, as tutorials from the website are not up to date and Vuforia Hololens Sample are not working on my computer due to an error on Unity's editor. For instance, I don't know if I still need to have the MixedRealityCamera and the ARCamera from Vuforia to be able to track the image target.

On this case, when I tried to export the app on the Hololens, the light camera of the Hololens in front on it isn't turned on, compare to the project made with Vuforia 6.2.10 when I can track the image target

 

I would like to know what is the best version of Vuforia for making Hololens apps, or is there any up to date tutorials, because Hololens sample are not working and nothing is explained :/

At this time, theUnity Editor is the only method for downloading updated Vuforia packages.

The point I was trying to make is that for optical see-through eyewear, you cannot upload an A4 target to the Target Manager and then print it at A3 for testign. The image's dimensions on the printout should closely (exactly) match what was specified when the target was uploaded. Otherwise, you will see performance anomalies.

Thank you very much for your answer, it sounds more clear for me.

Is there a way to get the update installer outside of Unity Editor ?

For the problem with my image target, if for example my image target is a paper sized A4 (21cm, 29.7cm), when I'm adding a new image target, on the width I should put 0.297 ? And also in the editor ?

What about how to structure a project for Hololens ? Should I put the MixedRealityCamera from the Holotoolkit or only the AR Camera ? How am I going to do the image recognition ?

Hello,

The artifact you are using has been made available to users developing with Unity Editor versions 5.6.X. We recommend that you use the latest version of the Unity Editor (2018.2) which is integrated with the Unity SDK:

It is recommended that after downloading and installing the latest Unity Editor, you also upgrade Vuforia to the latest version:

  1. Open the Unity Editor
  2. Select Window->Vuforia Configuration
    • If there is an error message about Vuforia not being enabled, please follow the instructions and restart this process
  3. If your version of Unity is eligible for a Vuforia update, you'll see a message and link to download the installer
  4. Download and extract installer executable from downloaded ZIP file
  5. Run the installer executeable
    • For Windows, select the folder that corresponds to the installed version of the Unity Editor that is eligible for the Vuforia update. Ex: C:\Program Files\Unity_2018.1.4f1
    • For Mac, select the drive
      • Note that for Mac, the installer executable will default to /Applications/Unity. This is a limitation of the Unity installer scripts. If you have multiple Unity application directories in this path, rename the target Editor version temporarily to /Applications/Unity to complete the installation
  6. Restart the same version of the Unity Editor in Step #1
  7. Verify the update in the Unity Editor via Window->Vuforia Configuration

If you have any previously installed Vuforia samples, you'll also want to download the updated versions of those from the Asset Store.

Lastly, if you're observing that the position of your augmentation is not matching the expected camera movements during tracking, be sure to check the size of your printed targets. For optical see-through devices (such as HoloLens), the printed target much match the dataset's target size exactly. Recall that the Target Manager works exclusively in the units of meters.

This differs from 2D planar targets on video see-through devices where the aspect ratio of the printed target must match what was uploaded to the Target Manager (and is in your dataset).
