Unable to record videos on Hololens

October 5, 2018 - 7:40am #1

Hello

I have been working on a project using Unity 2017.1 and Vuforia 6.2. I am aware that live streaming will never work but video recording on that version of Vuforia works great. However when I upgrade the project to Unity 2018.2 and Vuforia 7.5 I am unable to record any videos. Pressing the two volume buttons on the Hololens makes the recording sound but then almost immediately makes the stopping sound. If I try to start recording using the web portal the loading icon appears but then disappears after a few moments. I would like to upgrade Vuforia and the Unity version of my project to the latest versions but being unable to record videos prevents me from doing that. Recording videos is essential to my project's development.

Has anyone found a way to record videos using the new versions of Unity and Vuforia? My Hololens is on version 10.0.17134.285.

As I mentioned in my previous post you have to go to the VuforiaConfiguration asset that is in the Resources folder of your Unity project and change the "Camera Device Mode" setting from "DEFAULT_MODE" to "MODE_OPTIMIZE_SPEED". This will allow you to take pictures or record videos while Vuforia is tracking an image target.

Can I ask how you can take pictures or videos while an app using vuforia sdk is running???

In my case, I used an image target to track my model in my app and I'd like to record the tracking process. However, the screenshot-taking and video-recording functions of HoloLens doesn't work within the app.

Good news! I was able to figure out how to record videos using the newest Unity and Vuforia versions. All I needed to do was go to the VuforiaConfiguration asset and change "Camera Device Mode" from "DEFAULT_MODE" to "MODE_OPTIMIZE_SPEED".
