VideoBackgroundTexture

May 10, 2018 - 10:51am #1

Ive been trying to get a copy of the VideoBackgroundTexture while running under the hololens but it does not appear to be available.

It works just fine while running in the unity editor.

Is the VideoBackgroundTexture not available while running under the hololens or is there perhaps a special way to enable it in that scenario?

Thanks,

Hello,

Correct. There is no workaround on HoloLens that I'm aware of.

Unfortunately the combination of CameraDevice.Instance.GetCameraImage() with Image.CopyToTexture() is extremely slow, usually taking a large fraction of a second to complete for each frame.

Unfortunately, I don't have any additional recommendations beyond what is covered in this article: https://library.vuforia.com/articles/Solution/Working-with-the-Camera#How-To-Obtain-HD-Camera-Frames

Hi Medabit,

Thanks for clarifying. I have some followup questions:

  1. Perhaps this explains why the VuforiaOcclusionManagement sample doesn't seem to work on HoloLens. That sample uses the video background texture to make a physical box in the scene appear to be semi-transparent. Is there a way to get this working on HoloLens?

Thanks,

Adam

Hello,

The Vuforia Engine SDK does not support video background rendering on optical see-through devices, such as HoloLens.
