WSA capabilities

Hi everyone,

I have some questions regarding the required capabilities to use Vuforia on the Hololens:

Why does Vuforia need internet access, if I use a device database and why does it need access to the microphone?

It's like having a bugging device at the workplace.

Hello,

Although it does not appear in the release notes, Unity UWP apps in Vuforia Engine SDK 7.5 can now be built without microphone permissions. The requirement of internet permissions remains in order for the Vuforia SDK to have the ability to download important device profile updates which may affect SDK functionality and/or performance.

Note that Vuforia SDK does not require internet connectivity to run.

Thanks,

Hi,

I get the error while using Unity 2018.2.7f1 and Vuforia 7.2.23 as well.

All I did was creating a new project, adding an AR camera to the scene and tried to build the project for Hololens.

Hi medabit,

thanks for looking into it. Are there any news about it?

Hi,

I am using Vuforia 7.0.50, Unity 2017.4.1f1 and not a sample but the standard import right now and it wouldn't even build my application without these capabilities and if I deny the access to the microphone via the Hololens permission system I get the error, that my requested pixelformat could not be registered since it is "not supported" on the device, but it works without problems if the permission is enabled. Maybe it is just me, but the microphone permission should not have such an confusing impact. To me, Vuforia is trying really hard to get all the permissions.

Depending the version: Is this an old bug that got fixed? I couldn't find anything regarding this problem than "you have to grand the permissions".

I would be glad if you could investigate this matter.

Hello,

I believe these settings were shown/used in our sample app due to the functionality that it includes (voice commands). If your app or supporting services do not require these settings, then you should be fine turning them off.

The Vuforia 7.2 SDK only "requires" internet access for real time services, such as Cloud Reco.

Thanks,

Alright, the internet access is probably because of the camera calibration file that gets downloaded from time to time (wouldn't be a connection once be enough?), but why it needs the microphone capability is still a mystery to me, since I can't find anything about voice commands or something like that.
