5 Star Target Bad Recognition

July 29, 2014 - 11:40pm #1

I have configured this Target in the Manager:

https://docs.google.com/a/airweb.de/file/d/0B-SqT7Z2QCxaZ0dMY0hmcndqMndnWDE2TmZsQ3NBTTVFV09r/edit

It's marked with 5 stars, so recognition should be excellent. However it seems to have real trouble recognizing it, especially on this image:

When I try to get it recognized by only having the Target in view of the camera, and nothing else, it works pretty well but still has issues sometimes.

For additional info -  I have configured 2 more targets and they get recognized without any issues on the same image the first target is problematic on. Here they are:

I hope you can help me shed some light on this.

5 Star Target Bad Recognition

July 31, 2014 - 6:37pm #2

After doing a couple of tests, it seems that the image in question is probably a borderline 4-star image. After cropping to the extents of the photo and correcting for rotation, the image received 4 stars. When doing the same steps on the Frauen-gruppe_s.png, the image retained its 5-star rating. The slight amount of extra paperclip detail beyond the extents of the photo in the target-handy_s.png may have been enough to bump it into a 5-star range, but if you look at the feature points in the Target Manager, you will see that there's few feature points added. The feature points in the image are mostly around the camera. Here's an article that discusses ideal target features:
