Hi,
Starting with iOS 9 / Xcode 7, Apple is pushing hard App Thining and Bitcode. Adoption of Bitcode is the default in Xcode 7, and will soon be required.
You cannot compile your app for bitcode unless all your 3rd party libraries adopt is as well, and currently Vuforia doesn't. I am worried at this point that adopting Vuforia in my app will prevent me to submit my app in the near future (I bet for February 2016, givent the recuring pattern observed the last past years).
Can you give us confirmation that you are aware of this situation and working on it ?
Here the compiler warning:
URGENT: all bitcode will be dropped because '/Users/…/Vuforia)' was built without bitcode. You must rebuild it with bitcode enabled (Xcode setting ENABLE_BITCODE), obtain an updated library from the vendor, or disable bitcode for this target. Note: This will be an error in the future.
For those who wonder, bitcode is an intermediate representation of a compiled program and allows iOS9:- to reduce app file size by removing the slices you don't need (armv7 armv7s arm64)- to compile Vuforia for future architectures it isn't ready for yet (arm128 bits ? Intel64 bits ?) See https://developer.apple.com/library/prerelease/watchos/documentation/IDEs/Conceptual/AppDistributionGuide/AppThinning/AppThinning.html for more details. Any plans on Xcode7/iOS9 bitcode support ?
Xcode 7, iOS 9 and bitcode support are in our radar of course, but there is no announcement about them at this time.
Is there any new information
Is there any new information on this topic? Any idea when Vuforia will start supporting Bitcode?
Bitcode support has become a
Bitcode support has become a big issue for us as well. The combined size of the Unity and Vuforia libraries mean that our app is huge (125MB when installed on device), despite the Unity content only taking up 15MB.
This issue is more important
This issue is more important than ever. We are already at iOS 11 now. Bitcode has become standard. Vuforia is the only SDK we use without bitcode support and it affects the rest of our project. This should be a technical priority.
