BitCode Support

August 3, 2017 - 4:54am #1

Hi all,

I know that the topic BitCode Support was already discussed: https://developer.vuforia.com/forum/unity-extension-technical-discussion/ios-bitcode-support

But since the last post was from 2016 and the topic is locked, I wonder if there are any news about that? Is Bitcode supported in the new vuforia version or will it be someday in the future?

For a lot of our customers this becomes more and more important and app slicing seems to be very difficult if you only supply parts of the final app.

Looking forward for some Feedback!

Are there any plans of introducing bitcode support to Vuforia's iOS library?

Bitcode is the current Apple standard for apps. Not supporting it breaks the app in various ways. it makes it difficult to integrate the app with third-party frameworks which have to be changed not to use bitcode otherwise they cannot be linked altogether. You guys should consider making adoption easier, since it will be easier for us to adopt Core ML and AR Kit, which have similar functionality, but well integrated to iOS.

I'm currently developing a solution for a customer that need to use Vuforia, but, honestly, after facing difficulties with integrating it with Swift as well as the lack of support of bitcode compilation is making me wish to use Core ML instead.

Best regards,

Would you be able to provide more details about your need for BitCode support? BitCode is not needed for app slicing, which can be achieved with Vuforia currently (refer to the thread linked in the original post). If BitCode support would clear up big blockers or difficulties for our customers, we'd be interested to know in what ways.

That's probably not an answer that satisfies your paying customers. This isn't a feature request - it is something that is basically required by apps nowadays. Not having bitcode support is pretty bad, and makes me wonder why I'm using this platform if it isn't going to bother evolving with other libraries.

Saying "bitcode is unsupported" and leaving it without any dates, milestones or promises to your paying customers is not only bad business, it's bad morale.

Hello Stefan,

Unfortunately BitCode support is still not available in Vuforia.

Apologies for the inconvenience,
