Books sample project - confusing issue!

January 13, 2014 - 1:11pm #1

Ok, so I can't figure out why this isn't working. The project builds and runs fine, and all the trackers work great.

I modify the keys as well as the download URL for the JSON content.

I create my own cloud target database. I create a tracker and upload a metadata text file that contains the JSON file name.

Then, I run the project again.

Now, it find the target just fine. It downloads the metadata just fine. It even downloads the JSON file just fine. But here's where things get weird:

While tracking the target, I never see the overlay (the one with the book details). If I move my device away from the target, the overlay appears on my device (just as it should according to the Book demo). But if I then go back to tracking, I still don't see the overlay!

I've been digging through the project code (which is good because I need to do it anyway), but for the life of me I can't figure out what it doesn't want to transition the overlay to the tracker!

Any thoughts?

Ok, so that seemed to help a bit. I'll need to figure out how the 2D-to-3D transformation of the screen-grab of the UI takes the trackable size into account.

Thanks. I'm trying that now. I modified the target width about 40 minutes ago and am just waiting for "Pending" to change to "Active" :)

I will report when done testing again.

Try setting the image target width to 100 or 200; the sample code works with targets whose size is in millimeters when printed.

Ok, after some further testing I've noticed I can begin to see the UI (while tracking) if I move away from the tracker by about two meters. So I'm thinking that I have my target set up incorrectly in the database. Can someone shed some light on what the tracker width value should be? Right now I just have it set at 1.0.

Thanks.

In fact, let's keep this really simple. I redownloaded the Books example and am now starting fresh.

- All I changed in the project were the keys.

- In my test cloud database, I have a trackable with a metadata file that contains the following text: "samplebook3.json"

Now, when I run the app, the JSON data file (from your server) downloads successfully. But here's where the same problem occurs:

While I'm tracking, nothing appears. When I stop tracking, the book UI appears.

Very strange. I'm convinced it's something I'm overlooking in the code, but I'm at a loss.

Apologies. I mean the behavior is different after I modify the keys. Obviously I had to add my own targets to my own cloud database and upload the necessary metadata.

Bottom line is that I'm trying to mirror precisely the behavior of the sample app, but with my own keys and JSON download location.

I am not sure what you are saying exactly.

Are you saying that the behaviour is different after you modify the keys to your own cloud database, compared to the default one?

or

Are you saying that the behaviour is different against the previous version of the books sample?
