January 23, 2013 - 12:45pm #1

Hi,

Just wondering how I can flick cameras when running the app ?  I am using Unity4 iOS & Vuforia2.0

I read that its now posible in Ver 2.0 to change cameras from rear to front... yes ?..    So I'd like to be able to test this new abitliy.

Thanks,

Michael

Sounds good - thanks for sharing!

When you have time it would be great to see a video of this in action - great use case.

Hi,

OK I've hooked up an iPhone5 via HDMI  to a Sony Smart TV.

I used a lightning to HDMI cable that also allows the phone to be powered at the same time... cool

I reversed the camera and it mirrors the image well.   If I hold the phone vertically the image displayed on the TV is restricted to approx. 30% of the screen with each side of the screen being blacked out.  If I hold the phone horizontal it fills 90% of the TV screen.....  perfect  :)

I'm also thinking,  I need to cater for both adults and children...  so taking this into account.. the camera should be set at an optimium height.. hhmm... this might be difficult since users need to be relatively  close to the camera to get a good AR effect.  The further back the user stands the larger the target card.

Hi Mick,

There is no plan for any update here as behaviour is as expected and consistent across Android.

See this thread for more details:

https://developer.vuforia.com/forum/unity-3-extension-technical-discussion/flipping-video-input#comment-2021220

In a nutshell:

  • Front camera with Mirroring=OFF will show an upside down image in Portrait mode, text readable
  • Front camera with Mirroring=ON will work as expected, nothing upside down but, text obviously mirrored
  • Back camera with Mirroring=ON will show a upside down image in Portrait mode, text mirrored
  • Back camera with Mirroring=OFF behaves as expected.

Awesome... I'll play wiht this tinight after I get home :)

Perhaps there's a way to simply flip the camera before it's reversed ?

Look forward to the update :)

Hi Michael,

Click on the AR Camera and go to the Inspector and under QCAR Behaviour Script look for the Camera Direction dropdown.

You will also find a Mirroring option as well, though currently this is inverting the image - something we are investigating at present.
