iOS getting started tutorial

May 1, 2012 - 5:38pm #1

Hi, I'm just starting to experiment with vuforia and I was wondering if someone could give me a quick tutorial on how to start an AR project from scratch. My main trouble right now is adding the libQCAR.a library to the project, but any other tips or tricks would be great.

Thanks

Thanks a lot :)

Hi chwastek,

Apologies as this is due to the portal upgrade - we are aware of the problem and hope to have it fixed soon.

Here is the direct link in this new portal:  https://developer.vuforia.com/forum/ios/problems-linking-qcar-files

thanks

hey NalinS,

your last link is dead :/ I just downloaded new sdk and did clean project, but it only reduced from 2 errors to 1 - both concerning not finding <QCAR/Tool.h> ... :(

Have a look at this thread as it describes problems developers have had with include paths etc.

Basically if you want to get started go with the ImageTarget samples - that's the easiest path.  Adding it to your own project is not quite so straightforward but it should be possible once you have a bit more experience.

I would suggest you don't have the header files in your search path. This post on SO might help: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3428216/adding-system-header-search-path-to-xcode

Try Cleaning the project.

Also which version of the iOS SDK are you using?

Thanks for the reply. I'll use the samples.

Just wondering though, when I add libQCAR.a in the way you describe, I get errors like: "Lexical or Preprocessor Issue 'QCAR/Tool.h' file not found". What would be causing those kinds of errors?

You can add it to Frameworks from /vuforia-sdk-ios-1-5-8/build/lib/arm using the Add Files To [ Project Name ] option.

It's typically a lot easier to customize the samples, rather than build a project from scratch.
