Vuforia Rendering Primitives

October 10, 2016 - 5:00pm #5

Attention native Android and iOS developers:

We’re updating our rendering API to allow for increased flexibility, better performance and easier integration of Vuforia with other rendering engines.

What does this mean for you?

The drawVideoBackground() method has been deprecated. Later this year, with Vuforia 6.2, the method will no longer be available. Apps using this method will need to migrate to the new Render Primitives API as the previous configuration will no longer be supported. Please review our documentation and sample apps for an understanding of how to use the new rendering primitives.

iOS 9 support

Compiling native samples on Xcode 7 / iOS 9:

When building your native Vuforia sample in Xcode 7 with iOS 9 SDK, you may incur in a linker error due to unsupported "ENABLE_BITCODE" mode; you can remove this error message by changing the ENABLE_BITCODE option to 'NO' in your Xcode project Build Settings.

Known issue in Sample apps (Vuforia 5.0.x) after device screen lock / unlock

If you observe a crash or black screen upon locking and/or unlocking the screen of your iOS device while running one of the Vuforia Samples, you can resolve the issue by applying the following code change:

locate the applicationWillResignActive in your sample "" file,

remove (or comment out) the call to:

    // [self.glResourceHandler finishOpenGLESCommands];

Vuforia, iOS and OpenGL ES

May 2, 2013 - 5:00pm #2

OpenGL ES is the standard for rendering 3D content on mobile platforms.

The Vuforia iOS samples show you how to set up an OpenGL rendering context and render simple 3D content (e.g. static, textured models) using OpenGL ES 1.1 or 2.0.

For issues concerning OpenGL ES rendering please consult these pages:
