Is learning Metal worth it?

I recently tried using Vuforia with SceneKit and the quality was pretty bad - the tracking was laggy and jerky. I wanted to use GLKit in order to make loading OBJ files easier, but Apple is being incredibly obnoxious about providing as little documentation for it as possible (specifically GLKMesh/Model IO) in favor of promoting Metal. However the Vuforia Metal demo looked pretty complicated, and my experience with SceneKit has left me skeptical. Is Metal worth it or should I stick with OpenGL?
