[Noob] How to detect a colision with a virtual object?

March 12, 2013 - 3:18pm #1

Hello all.

I am newbie with Vuforia and I am playing with the examples.

I have a possible project with AR.

I need to know how to detect that an object that my app draws in the app and the users moves/launchs against an virtual object, like the pot, by example.

Example: In the "image target" example, I would like to draw a gun and a bullet, and shoot agains the pot.

Is possible to detect the colission? How to do it?

Thanks!!

Can I know the coordinate of the recognaize object? (x,y)

Can I suggest you go through the Knowledge Base in the Developer Guide

- particularly the section on screen coordinates:

https://developer.vuforia.com/resources/dev-guide/screen-coordinates

Can I draw and objet with cocos (overlay)

Well, you said you would have time to integrate with Cocos, so you need to start investigating to answer your own question.  As I said, we do not have any experience here, but this thread might help:

https://developer.vuforia.com/forum/ios/cocos2d-and-qcar-project-integration

You could also try searching the forums for "cocos2d"

OK, I expect to have time to integrate Cocos2D.

And ... the others questions:

Can I know the coordinate of the recognaize object? (x,y)

Can I draw and objet with cocos (overlay) and know if the object have the same position that the recognaize objet?

Anyone can help me? :)

THANKS!

Sorry, we do not have any examples integrating with Cocos2D, but I know it will be quite difficult.

Hello NalinS

I´m not a Unity developer, I only know the Unity´s features.

I can develop apps in iOS and Cocos 2D.

Can I know the coordinate of the recognaize object? (x,y)

Can I draw and objet with cocos (overlay) and know if the object have the same position that the recognaize objet?

Any example?  :D

Thanks!

Hi CesarRN

Unless you are very experienced you will find it very difficult to do in native iOS, so I would suggest trying with Unity because the physics and the rendering components are provided for you.

In this case I suggest you go through the Unity tutorials of which there are plenty, or perhaps get a book that can take you through the basics of what you proposed without using any AR.  Then you can try to integrate with the samples.

Hello DavidBeard, I am usin the native iOS SDK.

I  think that I can draw an image, move to the 3D object and detect the colision.

Or show two pots and move one of them against the other.

I don´t know what solution is more easy.

Thanks!

Are you using the native iOS SDK or the Unity extension?
