I am linking against Vuforia version 2.0.30. I can't seem to get the framework to track the targets I have generated in the Target Manager. It used to work, but now it won't work with newly generated targets. My targets work fine in your ImageTarget sample with version 2.6.0.
Have you changed the way the Target Manager generates targets?
My code works fine with your StonesAndChips xml/dat file from the ImageTarget sample, when I link against Vuforia 2.0.30. It seems like the app never recognizes the target, when I use newly generated targets from the target manager.

Target Manager has been updated with SDK 2.6; so, you need to use the latest version of Vuforia (2.6) with targets databases created with the current Target Manager.

Could you please do a test?
Use the Image Targets application and modify it to use your own Targets (.dat and .xml files) - see if it works and if it crashes.
If it does not crash it may help you to narrow down the problem, as I cannot think why it might be crashing at present.

I have already tried that and it works fine with the ImageTarget sample and my own targets. The problem with the targets not working with 2.0 is resolved, as you informed me that the Target Manager is updated with version 2.6.

How different is your code in this respect from the basic Imaget Targets sample? i.e. are you doing anything else additionally related to OpenGL ES?
