unity2019.3~ and vuforia will crash with apple silicon mac

December 2, 2020 - 7:19am #1

Hi

I bought Macbook pro (M1)  and istall unity 2020.2b and vuforia9.63, but if we play with Vuforia contents(ARcamera or image-target etc) unity will crash.

I try many pattern (unity 2021a+ vuforia9.63) (unity 2019.3 or 4 +vuforia9.63 or 9.14...)   but all patter crashed.

Before unity 2019.1.14 (beforehand vuforia included version) can work, but after unity 2019.2 (we have to install from package manager ver) it crashed.

unity itself is working any ver.  I think Vuforia package manager is something wrong?

Do you have same problem?

Hi @sheltondeverell,

The installation is not blocked, it just takes some time to download the sdk form git. I can take up to 5-10 min.

If this takes to much time, please use the alternative ways to install available mentioned here: https://library.vuforia.com/articles/Solution/vuforia-engine-package-hosting-for-unity.html.

Thank you.

unity2019.3~ and vuforia will crash with apple silicon mac

I am able to install Unity using a Mac mini M1.  I am unable to import Vuforia because the computer is displaying a loading bar that says "resolving packages".  The software is not crashing but it seems stuck on this loader bar.  Perhaps someone could give me some advice on this, bearing in mind that I am a complete beginner.

Hi there,

Unity 2020.2 seems to be released with support for M1, and there is actually a 2021 Alpha version in Unity Hub. In my case the same crash is happening in both versions. Not sure if it's a problem with Unity or Vuforia, but it is happening anyway. Is there any successful Apple Silicon test from Vuforia Team that can be shared with the users?

Update - Dec 16, 2020

This is an answer from Unity that may help to solve the issue: Judging by the Editor logs, it seems that the Editor crashes on "eyewearDeviceGetScreenOrientation", which is a part of Vuforia, indicating the issue is most likely on Vuforia's side.

I will likely open a new topic since my issue is happening in 2020.2 and not in the version detailed in the title of this thread.

Hi,

Please note that 2020.2 is still in beta and Unity does not support the Unity Editor yet with M1.

Once Unity fully supports M1 silicon, Vuforia will also run smoothly on it.

Thank you.
