Alpha bug with NGUI

Vuforia SDK Version: 3.0.9 -

Description with steps to reproduce:

This problem appears on Android and iOS. For iOS it doesn't seem to consistently appear across devices, my client says he sees it but I can't repro it on my iPad3.
I'm having a problem with textures going black or having alpha issues. Attachment 1 shows the menu opened, note the "DU" tab. Attachment 2 is the menu closed, the "DU" tab is rendering as just a black box.   Attachment 3 is what happens when I give the "DU" tab its own panel, which renders but has an alpha problem.
The problem swaps back and forth depending on if the menu is open. I've tried various combinations of UIPanels and changing the hierarchy around but I can't seem to completely remove the problem. It appears to only be happening while the Vuforia VR camera is in operation.
Any ideas what could be causing this?

Do the Vuforia Sample Applications show the same behavior?: Didn't test.

We don't offer any official support for making the 3rd party NGUI plugin and Vuforia work together, but you might find other posts on this forum about NGUI and some workarounds. Besides recommending to look through the layers of cameras to ensure proper backgrounds and depth settings, you might want to try to isolate and reproduce the effect in a simple app. If only some devices are displaying the issues, you might need to identify the affected devices and their OS versions to further narrow the problem. You might also want to identify if only certain image assets are affected and check their bit-depth settings, format, etc.
