Blank camera on UWP device

Vuforia SDK Version: 6.2.10 -

Description with steps to reproduce: We are facing an issue when developing for UWP with Vuforia 6.2.10 and Unity 5.6.3 on an HP Elite x2 (Windows 10).

When we try to build the solution with Visual Studio 2017 in Master mode (x86 or x64), the Vuforia camera stops working and we are only able to see a blank screen. The steps to reproduce this issue are:

- Create an empty Unity project.
- Import Vuforia to this empty project.
- Drag an ARCamera to the current scene (and add the Vuforia license key)
- Build for UWP
- On Visual Studio open the Build project and Compile the solution with Master mode.
- When the app starts, it shows a blank screen.

Development OS (Mac OS X, Windows, Linux): Windows -

Mobile OS and Version: 10 -

Mobile Device Manufacturer and Model name: HP Elite x2 -

Do the Vuforia Sample Applications show the same behavior?:

Vuforia Engine SDK does not commercially support development for Windows desktop.

So many replies and none useful :(

I am having the same problem while testing on my windows PC and a web cam.

Everything works fine when in Debug mode, but changing to Master makes the screen go black.

We are encountering this issue while using unity 2018.3.X. The problem does not occur while using unity 2017.

Can anyone please help out with this?

Technically, and UWP tablet device with an embedded camera should be able to run Vuforia's legacy features, such as Image Targets, etc. However, the HP Elite is a laptop PC that is not consider a "tablet".

Vuforia advanced features (Ground Plane, Model Targets) require additional calibration to be done by Vuforia. This is why we have a specific supported device list for these features.

Hello Strasza,

could you please elaborate on this? As far as I can tell, the HP Elite fits all the requirements to work with Vuforia.

It would be quite critical to be able to tell which devices are supported and which aren't. I've seen your list of Vuforia Fusion Supported Devices. But that should only be relevant when using Ground Plane and Model Targets, right?

Is this limitation linked to the use of Unity or does it also apply when developing a native UWP C++ project?

Hello again aperetellart,

What type of license are you using and when did you generate it? UWP builds had different licensing requirements in 6.2 than they do now in 7.0. Either way I would recommend upgrading to Unity 2017.3 with Vuforia 7 for using UWP. Android tablets are supported as well if you'd prefer to try that route.

Hi Strasza, so I'm using a Microsoft Surface Book 2, and I encounter this same behavior. The webcam feed shows properly when the program is run in the UnityEditor, but when I try to build the uwp project and run it either through the Visual Studio debugger or even after creating the app package, I only see a black screen once the program starts. Is the surface book 2 not supported yet? If not, would an android tablet be supported? I'm trying to get this simple AR app deployed to a tablet for use outside of the UnityEditor and I'm willing to work with whatever platform is properly supported. Thank you very much!

Looks like the IPV6 was not the issue at all, I don't know why they keep saying that the app crashed using ipv6 network. once my app doesn't even connect to the internet, so I asked them what they did to produce that error "Your app crashed on iPad or iPhone running iOS 11.2.5 connected to an IPv6 network during our review." and they answered me with this:

"We noticed that several screens of your app were crowded or laid out in a way that made it difficult to use your app.

Please see attached screenshots for details. These screenshots represent some examples of this problem but may not represent all instances of this issue.

Next Steps

To resolve this issue, please revise your app to ensure that the content and controls on the screen are easy to read and interact with.

For more information, please review the following resources on the iOS Developer Center page:

- UI Do's and Don'ts

- iOS Human Interface Guidelines

- UIKit

Please make any changes you see needed to bring this app into compliance with the App Review Guidelines, then resubmit for review. Once this issue has been resolved, we can continue with the review of your app.

Best Regards,

App Store Review"

Hello pangeadev,

Vuforia does not support the HP Elite x2 device at this time. Apologies for the inconvenience.
