Dataset could not be loaded and cannot be activated

Vuforia SDK Version: 6.1.17 -

Description with steps to reproduce: Hi,

My Vuforia Image tracker application works fine on Android and in Unity itself. Unfortunately when compiled as desktop application (both x86, x86_x64) the following error appears when Development mode is enabled. Otherwise the screen is black:

"Dataset $name could not be loaded and cannot be activated"

Unfortunately I have never seen a proper solution. I have redownloaded and imported the SDK and samples. Building the ImageTracker sample application also works in Unity, but *not* when compiled.

Please note the path is containing all English characters, nothing strange.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Do the Vuforia Sample Applications show the same behavior?: Yes, same for "ImageMarkers"

Copying the "QCar" directory manually from the Unity Assets directory to the location where I build the executable seems to make one error report less. the "Dataset could not be loaded" disappeared. Yet, still it will say "cannot initalize tracker". (when having project_Data\QCAR\...)


Unfortunately the loading code seems to be hidden in the DLL's. But there is definitely an issue with it. Apparently there are more people with the same issue (recently), but the forum is a bit difficult to search.

I just deleted all Vuforia files and redownloaded and imported everything one more time. No luck.

It is very likely a simple path problem in one of the DLL's.
