[Unity] Default quality settings reset when vuforia is enabled

February 15, 2019 - 7:10am #1

Vuforia SDK Version: 8.0.10 -

Description with steps to reproduce: Problem:
When Vuforia is enabled, and Play is pressed once in the Editor, the Quality Settings get reset. More specifically, all platforms get defaulted to Very Low.
I am using Unity 2018.3.2f1 with vuforia 8.0.10
The problem started happening after updating from Vuforia 7.2.23 to 8.0.10. The Unity version we used back then was 2018.2.10f1, it also happened there.
I am also sending this report to Unity, as I am uncertain who should be the one to fix it.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Create a new project.
2. Review the default quality settigns. Standalone is on Ultra, Android on Medium.
3. Switch platform to Android (not sure if necessary).
4. Go to Player Settings -> XR and enable Vuforia support.
5. Run the empty example scene. No need to add an ARCamera or import the additional Vuforia assets that come with it.
6. Restart Unity.
7. Review the quality again. All platform will now have the default quality set to Very Low. If you set them back to something else do steps 5&6 again, they will reset again. -

Development OS (Mac OS X, Windows, Linux): Windows -

Mobile OS and Version: not applicable -

Mobile Device Manufacturer and Model name: not applicable -

Do the Vuforia Sample Applications show the same behavior?: not applicable

[Unity] Default quality settings reset when vuforia is enabled

Hello,

We've triaged the issue and found that it is a Unity one. Here is the ticket: https://fogbugz.unity3d.com/default.asp?1136244_tgsut6eklf4qadf7

This will be captured in our upcoming release notes:

"After activating Vuforia a project, QualitySettings may be reset to the lowest level upon entering Play Mode in the Editor for the first time. QualitySettings may be manually restored to their prior configuration without risk of them being reset once Vuforia has been enabled."

Thanks,

Vuforia Engine Support

@medabit our team is having this same issue. Could you provide a link to the Unity issue you've opened? (Assuming it's public.) And do you know of any workaround?

Similarly, a line of our VuforiaConfiguration.asset file also gets re-written every time we press play. On my machine, it will be changed to this:

  eulaAcceptedVersions: '{"Values":["7.5","7.1","7.2","7.7","8.0","8.1","0.0"]}'

if it doesn't already match that exactly. Whereas my coworker's will rewrite it to this:

  eulaAcceptedVersions: '{"Values":["7.5","8.0","7.1","7.2","7.7","8.1","0.0"]}'

We are on the same version of Unity (2018.3.8f1) and Vuforia (8.0.10). This issue makes it difficult to push changes to our project, because every change will switch it back to the author's machine's version, unless we specifically undo the changes before every commit.

Hello,

I was able to reproduce the behavior you've described, but I also am unclear if this is a Unity Editor issue, or one related to the Vuforia Engine SDK.

I will reach out to our development team for further clarification.

Thanks,

Vuforia Engine Support
