Unity5 Vuforia4 -Everything is flashing around my object when target detected

Vuforia SDK Version: vuforia-unity-mobile-android-ios-4-0-103 -

Description with steps to reproduce:

Hi,

On android and IOS when I detect my target, the screen except the 3D objects displayed is flashing white (like a strobe).

I'm using Unity 5 pro 32bit (as I read that you aren't supporting the 64bit) and Vuforia 4: vuforia-unity-mobile-android-ios-4-0-103.unitypackage

I've tried to sandbox the issue, and with a simple scene using unity cubes and 7 colored materials, it is still flashing.

My scene is lightmapped.

I will edit this post as i'm testing everything.

No need to replace any shader;

simply upgrade to Unity 5.1.1 or newer and the UI should be correctly rendered.

EDIT:

when upgrading to Unity 5.1.1, in the iOS Player Settings, make sure to disable (uncheck) the Automatic Graphics API, then make sure that the Graphics API dropdown list only contains OpenGL ES 2.0 (i.e. remove METAL and remove OpenGL ES 3.0 from the list).

OK.. I solved my problem.
I replaced RenderVideoBackground and VideoBackgroung shaders on Unlit-Texture shader (in EmulatorVideobackground and VideoMaterial - materials)

Same problem.

Videobackground is blinking on IPad. Looks like a series of white flashes.
 

Unity scene - Simple baked geometry + Standart mobile diffuse shader. Dual lightmaps.

Software -  Vuforia 4 + Unity5 MAC OSX 64 (Build only) + Xcode 6.2
Device - IPad4 Retina on  IOS 8.1

Hi,

 

All the above suggestions didn't work. The render isn't lost or toggled, in fact, it is the only stable thing on the screen, the 3D layer is fine, it is the filmed part that is flashing.

Let me know if I can run any other test.

A few things you can try in the interim are to alternate the World Center Mode setting on the ARCamera to evaluate the effects of different scene origins - setting to a target will cause the target to be the origin, setting to camera will cause the camera to be the origin. It may be that the strobing is an unexpected side effect of the model's changing position in the lighting environment.

You can also try commenting out the OnTrackingLost method call in OnTrackableStateChanged in the DefaultTrackableEventHandler script on the ImageTarget instance. This will prevent your renderers from being disabled when tracking is lost and can help to debug whether the renderer toggling is causing a problem.

Does anyone managed to recreate the same issue ? I still can't get it work. I tried again with a simple scene but still not working...

The issue is the same with unity 5 pro in osx, unity 5 pro 32bit on Windows 8 pro. Unity 5 pro 64bit gives errors and I've read that vuforia s not working on 64bit so I don't even try anymore on 64bit windows.

Ok, thanks for clarifying...

 

EDIT:

You mentioned in a previous post that you're using Unity 5 32bit on OSX

as far as I am aware, the Mac OSX version of Unity 5 is 64bit only (and I could not find any download link to a Unity 5 32bit version for Mac, could you ?)

 

On Windows different story: they have both 32bit and a 64bit versions of the Unity 5 editor.

Hum that only the texture compression problem that causes blotchy maps. And I posted about the lightmaps compression. (the blotchiness appears on a non vuforia scene).

The flashing problem isn't solved and comes from vuforia and lightmaps.

I'm not in my office anymore, so I can't confirm that it is the same in play mode. I'm using unity 5 pro 32 bits on osx and on Windows 8 pro. Same scene, one for ios and one for android. When I bake with any settings and then build it's flashing, when I clear the lightmaps data it works again.
I've created a test scene with few cubes and it is doing the exact same thing.

It is 3 in the morning in belgium but I should be back in the office by 9-9:30 if you need a clear confirmation on the play mode.

I also have a lightmaps texture compression problem in unity 5 they get blotchy when I switch plateform to any mobile. But it gets back to normal when I set them as true colour (unusable on mobile as they do 10mo each). I've posted on the unity forum aswell about it (unity support, nickname : BooBi)

But it is not related to vuforia, the issue is there without anything from vuforia in the project.

Let me see if I can replicate this - to confirm, you are building all of your tests from 32bit Unity on OS X?

Also do you see the same in Play Mode or only on devices?

The maps are baked and here are the settings: see attached

 

If tried with different settings: from 2 min to 2hours rendering time, but it is always the same problem. And as soon as I delete the lightmaps the problem disappear.

What are the lightmapping settings that you are using - are the maps baked or realtime?
