Couple Question about License

February 25, 2015 - 4:05pm #1

1. Is one license required for one app I pulished or I can publish serval app with one license?

2. If I sign up Bronze - which have Monthly Reco Usage 5,000, by Reco it mean recognize any target or only cloud recognition?

    If I use predefine local target, dose those recognize count?

3. How long my old target(Legacy Database) going to be keeped if I don't add a license to them.

4. How long can I still use my old target(Legacy Database) with 3.0 SDK if I do not have plan to update to 4.0 SDK.

Thanks

Hi Vuforia Team,

I'v got following questions concering your new pricing scheme:

1. What is the reason why you changed the current pricing?

2. Could you supply me/us (developer community) with your market research data for the augmeted reality market which undermines such pricing change?

3. Do you intent to eliminate the indie devoloper community by the new pricing? And if yes, why?

4. What is your market share growth plan?

Many thanks

Martin

Indeed, I agree with you on all points. I'm still holding out hope that the counting of offline recos is a typo in the pricing page. But if it's not, then yes, it's crazy to count recos on the local device that don't use Qualcomm's resources, and indeed Metaio's basic package begins to seem eminently more reasonable.

I don't know how Qualcomm can't realize the damage they're doing here. I'm an educator, and I was planning on encouraging my students to use Vuforia. If this mess doesn't get cleaned up quick, then I will likely be using Qualcomm as an example of what not to do, and moving my students to other platforms. They've then lost out on many future customers. It's frankly a horrible business model.

I'm not sure about it rebuilding developer goodwill.

The plans force you to either have a watermark (which clients and your own professional apps  will not want in there), or they push you to a high price 'uncapped' package per app that not only charges for you cloud recognition (fine, I understand that), but also 'offline' recognitions made on the device which use up none of Qualcomm's resources but we are still being charged for?

So if you have 3 apps running for a year or 6 marketing apps running a shorter 6-month timespan then that will equate to the same as buying the Basic Metaio package which allows unlimited app development and no ongoing fees?

I would happily pay $99 a month for unlimted apps with unlimted 'offline' recognition (I don't use cloud reco), but the current plans make small business AR impossible.

AlessandroB, could you tell us if our understanding is correct regarding the following two points, without pointing us to the FAQ (because this particular information isn't clear in the FAQ or on the pricing page):

  • For a deployment without a plan, there is no limit for device DB recos but there is a limit to cloud DB recos
  • On all other paid plans, there are limits to BOTH device DB recos and cloud DB recos, and the total amount of allowed recos includes BOTH device DB recos and cloud DB recos

This is a simple clarification and answering it directly will contribute to rebuilding developer goodwill. Thanks.

In general, in 4.0 'recos' can be "Cloud DB recos" as well as "Device DB recos";

however, there may be different limitations for Device DB vs. Cloud DBs, as explained here:

https://developer.vuforia.com/library/articles/FAQ/Pricing-and-Deployment-Plans

(for example, you may want to check the section titled "Can I deploy an App at no charge" which indicates a specific limitation for Cloud targets only)

We are all asking that question, and qualcomm is refusing to give a straight answer.

reco == cloud recognition only ?

or

reco == cloud + device-database  recognition?

Is there any possibility to directly answer the question about predefined local targets counting towards the 5000 bronze limit?

This question is crucial and not answered in any FAQ. The information on the price page are contradicting, as the free plan contains 1000 cloud-recos (with no further info) and bronze contains 5000 recos that are defined as any real-world object being tracked, therefore suggesting that local targets count towards the 5000 of bronze too.
