License Question

January 15, 2019 - 5:56pm #1

Hi, I have searched the forums and found some answers but they are all very old and I'm unsure if they are still relevant.

Basically I am creating an AR app for a gallery.

I am estimating it will have less than 1000 installs.

There will be 40 image targets and no object targets.

I was thinking I need to purchase a "classic" license but read a thread that made me think I could use the free version.

An app that is only for consumer use and has less than 1,000 app installs can be distributed in app stores with a Development license. A paid license is required for a Consumer app with more than 1,000 installs. This is the total number of app installs across any/all platforms supported by Vuforia 6. An enterprise or toys/product app cannot be distributed with a Development license.

For more information, please review our developer agreement: https://developer.vuforia.com/legal/vuforia-developer-agreement

Thanks,

-Vuforia Support

Can you verify that the free license would be ok for me to use or do I need classic?

Also, if I use the free version, can I update it to Classic and keep my existing database?

I emailed this question to the licensing team a while ago but didn't hear back.

Thanks

Phil

License Question

Hello @zzzhihongLin,

My previous response below is no longer correct. The updated Vuforia Developer Agreement now specifies that the standard, out-of-the-box offering of Vuforia Engine SDK in Unity allows for app deployment without a Vuforia License. This out-of-the-box offering in Unity does utilize the Ground Plane nor Device Tracker features, and does not support customization of features (such as creating new Image Targets).

In order to develop and utilize the full feature set of Vuforia Engine, a Vuforia License is required. In order to deploy an app using the full feature set of Vuforia Engine, a paid license is required. Please see the license pricing page for more information.

Thanks,

Vuforia Engine Support

License Question

Hi,

It seems that Vuforia Developer Agreement is updated at June, 5 2019,

I'm wondering if it's still OK to use a developer license for that circumstances described?

Basically I am creating an AR app for a gallery.

I am estimating it will have less than 1000 installs.

There will be 40 image targets and no object targets.

in my case, the app will be used only in gallery(with 5 prepared tablets),

and will not be published or purchased on any app platforms(App Store, Google Play or something like these)

thanks in advance,

Zhihong

I would agree with your assessment in that a developer license can be used under the circumstances you've described. Note that this will still display the Vuforia watermark.

Yes, you can keep the existing Image Target device database and it will be compatible with a Classic license key.
