New pricing chart

October 1, 2017 - 8:35am #1

Just noticed the new pricing chart and as usual very confusing.  I'm sure you're aware (and to put it nicely), Vuforia has never been particularly good at explaining this stuff.

1. No mention of watermark in chart.  I've been with you for a long time, and I understand the free tier has it and the others dont.  Maybe you didn't want to discourage people from trying it out, but seems like you should be upfront about it.

2. I have a professional project, an AR book.  Usually falls under the Classic Plan, but the description under pro makes it sound like I now need a Pro license for it since it is a commercial product.

3. This is the biggie.  How do software updates work now.  Only for cloud and pro?  I have projects that have years of shelf life.  I can no longer update my apps on the Classic Plan when new versions of Vuforia come out?  Do I need to buy a new classic plan every time Vuforia fixes a bug?

Hey dpizzle,

I'll answer as much of this as I am able to.

The free license is different from the development license (which still exists).

The development license still has the same restrictions that you describe in this post as it did before.

The free license (no license inputted within Unity) is what allows UDT and Ground Plane as well as our pre-defined targets to be used and deployed for free, without limits on download.

I hope this clarifies that a bit. In relation to your questions related to grandfathering in to unlimited updates, I'd recommend shooting a message to our sales team at this link https://developer.vuforia.com/contact-sales

And hopefully my final question.  I noticed image targets are not included in free tier now and it's UDTs only (and I assume ARKit and ARCore soon).

Feels strange, but makes sense, you have to make money.  What happens to apps that are currently published using free tier and have image targets?

Does the old license apply to using a particlar SDK?  So say I continue to use unity6-2-10, do I keep being able to publish free tier with image targets?

Sorry one more question.  Are my previous purchased Classic Plans grandfathered in with unlimited updates?

At the time I originally purchased, it was assumed (and your policy) I'd be able to update these apps with Vuforia indefinitely.

Thanks for the detailed response.  To be fair, the dev license has changed.

It use to be limited to 1000 installs across platforms (but I doubt it was enforced).

If the install limit cap has not been lifted please let me know.

Our development license has not changed - you can continue to use Vuforia to develop your app for free. Apps using a development license will include a watermark.

We have not changed the license criteria for AR books. Please reach out to confirm the appropriate license for your application here https://developer.vuforia.com/contact-sales

A Classic license allows you to update your app within the current major version of Vuforia. Updates beyond that will require a new Classic license, a Cloud license or a Pro license. Please reach out at the link above if you have any questions.

Pricing information can be found here: https://developer.vuforia.com/pricing .

Thank you,

The Vuforia Team
