Using Vuforia Natively with Magic Leap, and not via Unity ?

April 21, 2021 - 12:17am #1

I would like to know if it's possible to add vuforia features to a Magic Leap App without using unity game engine, either natively or using other engines ?

if it's possible, what should i take into consideration ?

is it enough to activate the vuforia features by using the normal vuforia cycles : 1-Vuforia::setInitParameters()  2-Vuforia::init() 3-etc..

or should i use another approach ?

Thank you for your reply.

Using Vuforia Natively with Magic Leap, and not via Unity ?

Hello mcotora, and thank you for your fast reply,

In fact, I do know that you do not support native Lumin or Unreal Engine development officialy, and that's why we worked on our own integration of vuforia with UE4.

We wanted to have vuforia features in UE4 because that's the engine that we use in our work and all of our projects including magic leap apps are made with UE4.

Our team members are UE4 developers and we find it easier for us to implement the SDKs and features we need into UE4 than trying to port all our projects and expertise to another engine.

And the advantage we see with UE4 is the blueprint scripting language which allows our non-programmers to contribute in prototyping and express their ideas.

So in this case we had our Magic Leap app and we wanted to add some of the vuforia capabilities that magic leap one is lacking, and since lumin is an android based OS, so we decided to work on an android implementation of vuforia engine to UE4 as a plugin, that way we could even benefit form it for future mobile projects, and we succeded and it's working fine.

So now we want to test our implementation with a magic leap app, so before delving into it I wanted to know if there is any major SDK difference that prevents us from this implementation or if the Vuforia engine will automatically recognize the magic leap device and do the appropriate changes.

Thanks again for your reply.

We do not support native development on Magic Leap.

Could you please let us know your use-case wanting to develop natively or other Game Engines? for ex. would you prefer Unreal? What advantages do you see over Unity?

Thakn you.
