Can a training model target dataset be used in Vuforia Studio?

March 18, 2019 - 5:38am #1

Hi,

As described in https://library.vuforia.com/content/vuforia-library/en/articles/Solution/trained-model-target-datasets.html can the trained dataset be exported as a Unity file format or used for a native app .dat and .xml.

Are the .dat and .xml usable in Vuforia Studio?

And another question related to this... It seems to me that Vuforia wishes to have most users using the Vuforia Engine SDK in Unity instead of optimizing Vuforia Studio - why is that?

Vuforia Studio uses Engine SDK tech to enable Model Targets tracking. Thus, in general, the device databases should be compatible with Studio. However, we don't have much Studio expertise here so I'm not clear on that product's Model Target authoring workflow (open system? closed?), nor if there is a mechanism to import Engine device databases. I suggest you contact the Studio forum to determine if this is capable: https://community.ptc.com/

In my opinion, I believe this depends upon on your use case. Studio simplifies the workflow for augmenting IOT data on targets/surfaces/objects for industrial AR use cases. However, some users are app developers and use the Unity Engine for marketing/gaming/etc. use cases.

Thanks,
