I know the model target generator tool support texturing, according to the doc. but the model format i usually deal with cannot contain texture. it can just reference external textures. So, may i know what format i should use to import a textured model to model target generator?

I don’t know which format you're using, but “uses external texture file” is true for .obj. This is known to work by opening the .obj file in the MTG dialog box, and the texture referenced in the obj file gets automatically picked up if it’s in the correct place.
