Improving tracking with busy backgrounds

September 27, 2019 - 2:50am #1

Hi,

I'm using model targets for tracking and overlaying CAD onto a physical object.

The tracking works pretty well when the object has a distinct background, that is a contract to the surface of the object. However, when testing the application with a 'busy' background (lots of geometric structures in the background) the object tracking struggles and sometimes places the CAD overlay against some of these structures, rather than the object in the foreground.

Is there any way to combat this?

Thanks

P

Hi,

I've tried both MT360 and regular MR with guide views, both have struggled for detection of the object I'm tracking when the background is busy. The behaviour I've described previously, where the overlay was activated against an incorrect structure was using the cloud trained MT360.

I'm using a Microsoft Surface Pro (2017 I believe) running windows 10.

Thanks,

P

Hi,

Could you please let me know what MT are you using? MT360 or regular MT with guideview?

In addition could you please confirm the device you are using? with OS.

Thank you.
