I have an object that I'm trying to scan with the vuforia scanner app for android. This particular item has holes in it (think of a plastic grid, with holes -- something like the attached image, but not exactly) When I scan the object, It will generate points, but it seems to be registering whatever the object is sitting on as part of the object (I scanned it on a melamine surface, with a faint noisy pattern), since the app can "see" it through the holes in the object. Is there a way to prevent that from happening?
Indicating transparency in scanned objects
The scanner app will scan in anything it sees in the area you are scanning. It is unable to differentiate between what you are wanting to scan and not wanting to scan as this is the first process in teaching it what your object is. The only way to prevent this is to remove the object you do not want scanned from the scanning area.
You can also look into our Model Target feature for this object as an alternative. This feature will use the 3D model data for target generation instead of the scanner app. The detection in this feature will be based on the geometric data rather than textural data as well.
