Model Not recognizing

December 22, 2017 - 7:08am #1

Need some help to understand some dificulties in the model recognition. After some attempts to create some models targets, i can't create a model target that works, only a simple box with texture, but not so fluid. So i import the 3d model of the lander, and export it again from 3dsmax, and the issue is the same, it not recognize. But if i use your demo, it works fine. So my question:

can it be some issue with scale/units/Axle orientation? Any ideias?

I hope some of you are subscribed to this thread and have made some headway into what is happening.

Same thing, Unity 2017.3:

Lunar sample shows the 2d guide view I'm used to in Unity 5.6

Generate model target dataset in the new MTG, import that Unity package in 2017.3.

Switched Vuforia configuration to use new model database, activate it, disabled the Lunar one.

Same on model target GO.

Does not display anything in play.

I'm doing things exactly as I did back in 5.6, everything seems as if it should just work. Is the MTG broken?

Can you share you model and the guide view you used?

I have exactly the same problem.

Since my target model didn't work, I tried to replicate the demo Vuforia target. This didn't work as the given model and I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I replicated exactly the same position.

My model target is quite complex, and I believe the problem is on the target generator(scale/units/Axle).

I already made a target that works sometimes, this tells me that the problem is not on the unity configuration.

Thank you for your help.

Hello davidcarvalho,

A simple box is not a good target for the Model Target feature as it is too simple. As mentioned here: https://library.vuforia.com/articles/Solution/model-targets-user-guide.html

"Geometric complexity is useful to distinguish an object from other shapes in the environment. Simple shapes such as cuboids, or very elongated simple shapes may be easily confused with other objects in the user’s setting."

When you are importing the lander model yourself, what is the guide view you are setting? It's recommended to set it at an angle, similar to how the sample is set up, so that more of the model's geometry is visible.

Thanks,
