Model Target problems

October 14, 2019 - 10:17am #1

I have searched through the forums and other support locations but I just can't seem to find anything solid for the issues I'm having.

I have created a model target using the MTG with a. fbx model of the real-world object I want to use for the AR. Everything appears to have run correctly and I have a folder of files including a .unity package.

FIRST ISSUE:

When I import the package and create a model target, the resultant object is stretched on the x and z. Why?

SECOND ISSUE:

After I have added my AR model to the scene, I test in the Game mode with an attached webcam. I get the video feed from the camera but I do not see a guide image anywhere. I have tried all guide view modes with and without assigning a custom image.

THIRD ISSUE:

More of an unanswered question. Am I supposed to place something in my Target Manager? If so what? i tried putting the images created by MTG but they get rejected as they are the wrong bit depth

Going a bit mad trying to find answers to these, seemingly simple problems. All help greatfully received

I have solved this.

It was the license - didn't realise I was working from a basic license. Got a free developer license and all was good.

Odd the Vuforia support didn't suggest this. Found it in a Unity forum

The model loads into MTG correctly

I tried the untrained target package and had all the guide view options but still couldn't get a guide view in camera

I'm thinking something may have gone wrong in the target export process. When I import the source model into MTG, as I say, it loads correctly - proportions and orientation. However, when I then import the target package into Unity, it displays stretched on the x axis

Hi,

If the 3d model aka name appears horizontal when imported in MTG than yes, I would advise to change it to vertical as seen in real life.

Another thing that could affect is the scale not being set accordingly to the real life model. As a test you could try using the un-trained MT with Guideview and check if it's recognized.

Thank you.

Thanks,

Strange that the fbx didn't show up, I had no issues with that myself.

Our real world target is a sign on our building that was manufactured from the same drawings used for both the target and AR animation.

I have tried every conceivable angle on the sign and I get nothing. The measurements entered in the MTG are not exact but are very close, would that make a difference?

Could that fact that the sign is on a vertical surface affect it?

Thanks

Hi,

I tried importing the fbx in MTG but it doesn't show anything besides an empty background, do you maybe have an additional file that comes with the fbx after the export?

Nevertheless, as you have a trained db, you would need to first point the camera to the 3d model, once Vuforia recognizes a part of the 3d model the Guide View will appear. The behavior is different from the standard Model Target, for which the guideview is shown from the start.

Thank you.

Thanks, here are the .fbx and .unitypackage.

It is an Advanced MT - it has multiple guide views.

Regarding my last point: when I set up a standard image tracker, I upload the image to the Target Manager withing the Dev Portal and then download the database. I was wondering if that was required for the model target. But as i am writing it, I am realising that I only do that with image targets in order to create a .unitypackage to import to Unity...which MTG has already made for me.

Hi,

Could you please share your fbx file and resulted .unity package to test the behavior?

In regards to your second issue, did you create a standard or advanced model target? -> If you created a standard mt selecting the option GuideView2d f from Guide View Mode should show you the GuideView. if you created an advanced mt -> the guideview will be selected automatically by the trained database.

I don't understand the last point, what do you mean with place something in the Target Manager?

Thank you.
