Optimize the db size ?

September 29, 2020 - 7:16am #1

Hi! When training the model target we have the option of ordering a reduced CAD model that is either 200.000 triangle or 50.000 triangles. Visually they are nearly identical and certainly far within the 10% margin of error. Will the smaller 3d model create a smaller tracking DB and package in total or is it always best to use the highest quality 3d model? Will the smaller use 25% less data or similar? The final size of app is of outmost importance. Need to know before order and cant test atm.

Optimize the db size ?

Hi,

Q1 Yes

Q2 If a higher quality model doesn’t introduce more “feature noise” (e.g. button labels on a car dashboard that are too small to really determine), then you may have better tracking quality (e.g. due to round shapes in the 3D model matching the real object’s roundness closer), but in general having a smaller model can be preferred.

Q3. Reducing 200k triangles to 50k should have a size reduction by 25%, although it may vary, if there were shared vertices in the 200k variant but not the 50k variant. So it may only be 20% or so reduction.

Thank you.
