Purpose of Network Connection with MTG

Good morning!

I had a question about the purpose of needing to log into the Model Target Generator.  Is it transferring the model data to Vuforia(or any other) servers?  We deal with proprietary information, so we can't have our data loaded up to another company's servers.  If it is, is there a means to generate the necessary files without sending the models.  

Similar question with the Target Manager.  Is there a way to do all this data processing in-house?
