Unity fails to load model target data set.

December 20, 2017 - 12:49am #16

Hello!

I am testing the model targets in unity, but I am probably missing something obvious as it is not working as expected.

I have created the model target using the Vuforia model target generator. That created the unitypackage, which I then imported to my project. (Do I need to import something else also?) In the project, I created the AR camera and model target GameObject, activated the newly imported database from the VuforiaConfiguration and made sure that the model target is using my custom database.

When pressing play, the console pops up an error:

Failed to load data set New_Model_Target.

UnityEngine.Debug:LogError(Object)

Vuforia.DatabaseLoadARController:LoadDatasets()

Vuforia.VuforiaARController:Start()

System.Delegate:DynamicInvoke(Object[])

Vuforia.DelegateHelper:InvokeDelegate(Delegate, Object[])

Vuforia.DelegateHelper:InvokeWithExceptionHandling(Action)

Vuforia.VuforiaBehaviour:Start()

What am I doing wrong?

Same issue using Unity 2017.3

Additionally, when importing the unityPackage I get the following errors:

Package does not contain valid import settings for: Assets/Editor/Vuforia/DataSetName/authoringinfo.xml

Package does not contain valid import settings for: Assets/Editor/Vuforia/DataSetName/..._preview.jpg

Package does not contain valid import settings for: Assets/StreamingAssets/Vuforia/DataSetName.dat

Got the same issue...

Also have the issue.

No errors or anything when I import the model, as well as building the project - I just can't load it (in editor and on iOS).

Hello all,

You'll need a license key generated after the release of Vuforia 7 for the Model Targets feature to function with custom data.

Thanks,

I'd still like to have this communicated to the user upon running into the problem, as the amount of people with this problem seems to be quite big, given the short amount of time the tools have been publicly available!

But thanks a lot, it's working!

Hi Strasza,

I'm running into other problems now, as the dataset loads, with guidelines and everything popping up, but the model target doesn't get activated, even in really good lighting conditions, as well as having the physical object perfectly aligned with the guideview. It doesn't give me any feedback or debugger outputs, which makes it really tough to find the error!

I've tried on my built-in webcam, an external webcam, whilst also having built to both an iPhone 7 and an iPhone X.

Thanks!

Hi again,

The problem was sorted by going from "Portrait" to "Landscape" in the target model generator, despite the application running in portrait mode.

If you close Unity and delete the Library folder in your project root the library should be recalculated on the next startup. In this case my imported model-target prefab is throwing the following warning:

'Assets/Models/Touchlab/4800b68c89c04311a3c2d49f7f759b5b/Model.prefab' is not a valid prefab since it has no root game object.

Not sure if this is connected to the issue on startup or even relevant...

Another error could be found on the import of the model-target package itself:

Package does not contain valid import settings for: Assets/StreamingAssets/Vuforia/TouchlabMini.dat

Changing the device orientation in the target generator did not work in my case ...

For everyone who has an issue with loading data set, you should create and use new license key.

+1 to that.

At least display the error in the Unity console saying that the license does not support model target and that it maybe needs to be recreated :)

Is there a way to have a license renewed? We purchased a Classic license before Vuforia 7 was released and would like to add Model Targets to our project.

Hello,

Unfortunately, we don't have a license renewal or upgrade mechanism for Classic licenses. In order to utilize the Model Targets feature, you will have to purchase a new license that enables it.

@Vuforia Engine Support - That is sort of a brutal tactic. :/
