Converting 3dmodel formats to work in Vuforia

August 3, 2017 - 11:32am #1

Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone can help me... I currently work with a number of 3D models they typical end up being a STL file type. Is there a way to convert that into a file format (.OD) that works in Vuforia? Also is object recognition dependent on the color of the object or just the actually size of the object. For example, my 3d scans are non colored STL files and I will be viewing a acutal color object for recognition...

Best regards

Converting 3dmodel formats to work in Vuforia

Hello Amarjit,

Currently the only way to get a .OD file is by using the scanner app. Our upcoming Model Targets feature provides the ability to take a 3D model and use it for tracking. This feature is currently in our Early Access Program(EAP). You can apply for the EAP here http://info.vuforia.com/modeltargets and can otherwise look for it in a future Vuforia commercial release.

To address your second question, you can view this article for some more information https://library.vuforia.com/articles/Training/Object-Recognition.html

"For Object Recognition to work well, the physical object should be opaque, rigid and contain few moving parts. The surface of the object should have contrast-based features. Pliable or deformable objects are not supported."

Thanks,
