Different object recognition approach possible

Hi,

we would like to employ Vuforia to implement a HoloLens App aimed at 3D object recognition.

In contrast to the usual approach followed by Vuforia, we cannot use a database containing our objects, as we have stored a catalog of a high number of objects on the server side. The server side is accessible by a RESTfule webservice. This webservice can be queried quite easily by supplying an OBJ file.

I read that cloud recognition is well supported for image targets. Can cloud recognition or something similair also be implemened for 3D objects?
