Fruits recognition

April 7, 2017 - 7:30am #1

Hi, I have done some succesful demos with Vuforia and Unity3d.

Now, I'm trying to test if I can track a fruit (an apple, a banana, an orange, etc). I'm having troubles scanning an apple caused the contrast. I will success with other fruit? I imagine that with an orange I will have the same issue. I'm right?

Beside this, if I could succesfully scan a banana, Vuforia will only recognize the same fruit (or other mostly simillar), right?

As per what Medabit says, Vuforia isn't used for this.

A better solution is to research Google's deep learning software, (which is all hush hush). Basically, it uses super powerful server pc's to scan google images to figure out what a bananna should look like, and then uses a screen grab. Technically, it will never detect with perfect accuracy, (I'm 99.99999% sure this is a bananna).

Vuforia requires matching feature points of two or three dimensional planes. These need to be the same as reference points in the compiled image. Another words, a painting or house can be used, however you can't really use it for unique objects like a universal Hotdog detector.

Please review best practices for object targets: https://library.vuforia.com/articles/Training/Object-Recognition

Fruit will not provide a good number of feature points for detection and tracking. Also, as now two pieces of fruit are the same, this will also cause problems for reliable recognition.
