Object recognition for glossy object

December 14, 2017 - 1:16am #1

Hi all,

I tested scanning a coffee cup (see attachement) but the recognition is very very poor when I test the scan in the app.

I think it's because the coffee cup is glossy and mostly white.

So I have 2 questions:

- Is there a way to detect glossy object with the current Vuforia object recognition ?

- I tried applying for the new Model Target program and I would like to know if the Model Target will be better at recognizing glossy object (or object that have few features) ? Why ? (Is the recognition based on contrast, feature, contour ?)

Thank you for the great work,

Pierre

Object recognition for glossy object

February 17, 2018 - 3:27pm #2

I am having issues with glossy targets also.

Not just on glass, but also on business cards that have a gloss finish.

I would really like to know if there is a solution.  Possibly a way to recognize partial targets?  Since the light reflection blocks part of the cameras vision of the target, I assume a partial target recognition class extension could work?

Please help us fix this!
