Object recognition for large objects (like a car)

July 7, 2015 - 4:08am #1

I would like to scan a large object to build a 3d model that I want to track.

One example could be a complete car but also some parts of it like car wheel without removing

it from the car.

My questions:

1) Is it possible with "Vuforia Object Scanner for Android"?

2) "Object scanning paper" that is area where I can put my object for scan,

can it be much bigger than A4 size? If I increase area I can increase also size of objects....

3) Is there any tool I can use to generate 3d model if "Vuforia Object Scanner for Android" is not good for that?

4) Is there a tool to convert a 3d mode format l to .vuforia ob file?

Thanks.

Hi guys!!

Is there any development on the question of topic?

I would like to scan a large object too (like a car or a fridge), to build a 3d model that I want to track.

Is it possible with "Vuforia Object Scanner for Android" and which is the best way?

I really want your experiences about that..

Thanks

Do you know how to scan smaller objects with Vuforia Object Scanner? Any tip?

THanks

Hi Albert,

Can you post a code sample how i can load 3D models and textures to ObjectRecognition. I tried to change ObjectTargets.java but without success.

I would like to scan a large object to build a 3d model that I want to track.

One example could be a complete building by pre-build the KML (Keyhole Markup Language) 3D model (.dae) with building's image

My questions:

1) Is there any tool I can use to convert .dae to .ob file?

2) If we use 3D printer to print out the scaled down model of the building and paste up the real street view building image side by side, than the Vuforia Object Scanner can scan the physical building model, but the cost is too high. The more convenient method is the software can support to load complex three-dimensional models and textures rather than just support of small objects scanner. But I think this is the limit of this SDK now.

BRs,

Albert

No.

The ability to import 3D model would be very helpful.

Is there a way to convert fbx files to Vuforia Object Data(.od) file? Maybe a hack technique?
With Vuforia Object Scanner, it is impossible to scan large objects like buildings or statues...

The object scanning sheet is required. You will need to experiment with object sizes. Ideally you should capture object at all angles. Contrast and features are important and environment lighting and reflections can influence the capture as well as objects in the background. See our guides for mode details:

The Object Data (*.od) files are only generated from the Vuforia Object Scanner. You cannot convert other 3D model formats to a Vuforia Object Data (.od) file.
