Recognizing Large Object in Pieces

May 15, 2017 - 7:53am #3

Hello I am working on an internship project for Duke University and am in the process of attempting to use a somewhat large archway as an object target. The archway is all one similar color but is covered in different carvings. Would it be possible to scan this in chunks, then just provide the same content regardless what chunk the user is currently focused on?

Thanks

Hello,

If you were to scan the archway in sections, each section would be a single object target. Vuforia allows for multiple object targets to be packaged as a single device database, or the SDK can load multiple device databases that contain single object targets. It would be up to how you architect your app to decide whether it's structured as the former, latter or something in between.

Object recognition is highly dependent upon sufficient surface feature variation. Thus, I highly recommend that you perform a recognition test on device (i.e. not just using the scanner app test mode) to insure that performance meets your requirements.

Good luck!

Thanks.

Hey, thanks for your response! Honestly, at this point I'm thinking the variation on the arch might not be enough to warrant the headache of scanning it all in. I will keep trying workarounds though!
