Scanner app object works fine, in unity do not work well

March 27, 2016 - 6:52am #1

Hi everyone, I`m with a problem, when I scan a object with vuforia APP, it detects fine, the green rectangle appears and works very well even with little light. But when i pass it to Unity (With continouslyFocus and trigger auto) it simply don`t work or works very bad... anyone knows why the vuforia app works so well? if it is using some kind of extended tracking... even with the unity object sample it works very weird and different from the app.

Thank you!

Hi medabit,

Thanks for your reply,

We use your scanner app for getting OD files then add that file to vuforia target database and download it for unity editor version. So we use same target with your app.

Moreover we uses same device with same distances for testing. Your app work very well.

Thanks,

Hello @sduzel,

Vuforia does not have any settings for distance from the target.

What can affect Object Target's performance:

  1. Device used for the scanning. We recommend the Samsung Galaxy S6/S7/S8/S8+
  2. The object being scanned: https://library.vuforia.com/articles/Training/Object-Recognition
  3. The environment in which the scanning is done
  4. The device that the app is running on when detecting the object target
  5. The environment in which the object is being detected

Please provide some more details on your setup:

  • Are you using the same database between our sample app and your app?
  • When testing, are you using the same device when running both apps?

Thanks,

Vuforia Engine Support

Hello cloudstrifez,

You do not need a pro license for the object scanner + object recognition. We've had developers experience this issue in the past, but have never been able to reproduce it. Is the object you are using something we'd be able to get our hands on to test? Feel free to send me direct messages as follow up if you'd prefer to keep this information private.

Thanks,

I'm using the latest Unity and Vuforia versions and I have the database activated on the object target itself. It works fine on the scanner app but still can't detect through the app on my phone. Do I need a pro license to have the scanned object recognized through my test app?? Thanks!

Scanner app object works fine, in unity do not work well [SOLVED]

March 1, 2018 - 5:51pm #21

[SOLVED]  I fixed this by:

1) selecting AR Camera in the hierarchy in your scene

2) Open Vuforia Configuration

3)  Ensure that your OT Database that you downloaded is activated.

That's it!  Worked for me!

I too would like an answer.

Let me try rephrasing the question:

HOW DO YOU CORRECTLY IMPORT A SCANNED OBJECT TO UNITY?

1) Scan Object with Object Scanner App.

2)  Test it with the app and it works great!

3)  Download Database (Unity version)

4)  Open/Extract Unity Package

5)  Right click in hierarchy & add Vuforia > 3D Scan, which adds an Object Target.

6)  Add any 3D model to the target for testing.

7)  Ensure the correct database and object are selected.

8)  Run the app to test it.  (Tried running on both the computer webcam and an android device.  It does not work at all.  Zero recognition.)

Happens the same to me, it works fine in the object scanner app but not in Unity at all. I add the od file to the target manager, donwload the unity package and import it, activate the database which contains it, then add 3D scan object in Unity, select the database and object target but when i test it nothing is detected at all

Could someone from Vuforia chime in on this issue? Seems lots of people are having the same problem. I even created the paper habitat to test the scanning and it works perfect with the core project, but when I swap out to my database with the .od file I created of the paper habitat it does not recognize it at all. What gives?

Hi everyone, may be I find the point: Enable the datasets

Default is trun off after add datasets.

Step: ARCamera -> Vuforia Behaviour -> Open Vuforia configuration -> Datasets -> Load XXX Database -> Activate

Hello,

Can you send some screen grabs from the Object Scanner? Specifically, I'd like to see the object you're trying to scan and the number of keypoints extracted by the tool from the object.

Just as an FYI, here is some guidance on the types of objects supported: https://library.vuforia.com/articles/Training/Object-Recognition

Thanks.

I also need a solution for this.

Scanner displays the preview cube fine but Unity does not recognise the target at all.

Any kind of help would be appreciated.

I think Unity only can load native plugins in 32 bit for android. Maybe this is causing the performance drop (mayebe the scanner app uses some 64 bit detection), but this is just a guess.. I can't even manage to get my object recognized by the scanner app :(

Same issue here. Also tried to use my OT scans in the Unity Sample App but they get only recognised some times.

If somebody gets the object tracking working, please post the solution in this thread. Thank you!

I also am experiencing this issue. Is there any resolution or debugging steps that can be performed? Is the source for the scanner app using Unity or the Android version of Vuforia?

It is frustrating that the scanner locks on so beautifully, but we can't replicate that behaviour in Unity.

We tried alot of things the last weeks (rescanning the objects, simply using the sample scene etc.) but nothing improved the situation. So still the object targets are recoginzed perfectly by the Vuforia object scanner (in test mode) but barely at all in Unity 5.3.4f1 (32-bit).

The continuous focus focus is set via OnVuforiaStarted callback and works fine but still no recognition.

We scanned with an Samsung Galaxy Note 3, but as I said the recognition is perfect with the object scanner.

Could this be an 32-bit - 64-bit -Unity-issue?

Any help would be highly appreciated since the object recognition is a key feature of our app. And since we are on a timeframe, is there any possibility to get professional (meaning paid)support in this issue?

Thanks, Thomas

OhmGym:

(autofoucus and trigger are set).

Could you verify that:

1- continuous autofocus (FOCUS_MODE_CONTINUOUS_AUTO) is set AFTER Vuforia has started (i.e. by setting it in the OnVuforiaStarted callback, for example), and not before

2- that you restore Continuous Autofocus after setting FOCUS_MODE_TRIGGER_AUTO ? (as shown in the sample app code), as otherwise the continuous autofocus may be disabled after setting the Trigger Auto.

Same problem here. All our targets test like charm in the testmode of the object scanner, but are barely recoginzed at all in Unity (autofoucus and trigger are set). Is there any parameters we are missing?

Any advice would be appreciated.

I would like to scan a large object (a car) that I want to track.

How I can use a car as 3d target object? Is this possible?
