Downloading xml and dat from Cloud DB at runtime

October 10, 2013 - 12:04pm #1

Hello,

I want to upload a new target to a cloud db via VWS API, and then download the generated xml and dat files to be dynamically loaded. I know that the upload and dynamic loading stages are possible, but I can't find any information about whether it's possible to download the generated xml and dat files via VWS. How can I do this without using CloudRec?

Thanks,

Rob

Hello,

To be clear, does that mean that this work flow is not possible using Unity3D?

  1. User 1 device : Generate Image Targets using the UserDefined system
  2. User 1 device : Push to VWS
  3. User 2 device : using the keys from user 1 device, cache certain VWS targets
  4. User 2 device : while not connected to the internet, generate a Cloud Based target which has been previously cached.

Is that correct?

Thanks!

The process as described above wouldn't work. Vuforia doesn't cache targets received from CloudReco. See my related post:

The VWS API is intended to be used by developers for managing the targets in a Cloud DB. The VWS API has a quota of 5000 requests per day which could be exceeded if used within a publicly available app.

The app-based cloud recognition service has tiered levels described here:

You can host your own Device Databases, but there is no way to generate them programatically. You'll need to use the Target Manager.

Thankd for the reply. Is there any way I get programmically access the dat files without using the CloudRec service and paying?

Thanks,

VWS does not allow downloading a dataset (XML / DAT). Check the documentation.
