dynamic content...

March 22, 2012 - 1:52am #1

Hi All,

Is there a way to link a preset 2D plane or 3D object to a trackable, whereby the images and text shown on that object is dynamically fetched (xml,.....) from a server running overhere...? So the user would need an active internetconnection.

Or has all content to be shown via Vuforia be "embedded / enclosed" in the app itself (for offline use).....

Usecase could be scanning a newspaper / folder / leaflet / schoolbook and show information that is centrally distributed via some sort of CMS....

I do have some (extensive) experience with Layar.

Thanks for the effort and your time.

Jeroen

Hi Robert,

thanks for the great help, I do understand that sometimes a magician does not disclose his secrets, and right you are. It's up to us to figure it out. At least we know it can be done, saves us ages, finding out we're on a dead end road.

CU (probably not :-)

I don't want to describe my exact use case but yes it was opengl.

The app would recognise an image and request an image to be generated on a webserver.
The webserver would generate the image and the app would download. The image would then be converted into an opengl texture using Qualcomms given sample and applied to the 3D object in opengl.

You could also write a (or get a 3rd party) java model loader and do the same sort of thing with models instead of textures.

Hope that helps.
Is there anything specific you have questions about?

It can definitely be done as I have done something similar before.
