feature request: rectangular Frame markers (using internal image for orientation)

June 22, 2011 - 5:32am #1

first of all, thanks to infinity for making this amazing toolkit available for free! I've been following the research from Graz, and being able to use it for our projects is just fantastic, especially with the iOS version coming up.

We currently have an interesting project for a not-for-profit/environmental protection organization, but we immediately ran into this: the image that their agency want to use for their campaign doesn't have enough features for tracking.

Using a Frame marker would solve this, except that this has to be square, whereas we would like this image to fill the page and have the Frame marker around it. Would it be possible to extend the library to allow for this?

Thinking one step further: if one were to combine the black border of the Frame marker with using the internal image for orientation, (using Natural Features or just downsampling and RGB differencing with the image to track, like in ARToolkit), then even the dots along the edge would not be needed.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.

PS: Yes, I know that a square is a special case of rectangle, but when I say 'non-square Frame marker' one might assume that I'm talking about triangular or circular ones, so..

feature request: rectangular Frame markers (using internal image

Has anyone ever addressed this or has there been any progress on this? I'm looking for a frame marker that works at roughly 2:1 length ratio for a rectangular target.
