Geo-Location Possible Too?

October 17, 2011 - 5:51am #1

Using Qualcomm AR, is it possible to also render graphic overlays using geo-coordinates relative to the current phone/device position, in addition to using trackables/markers?

Thank you.

QCAR simply uses OpenGL to render graphics. What it returns is a projection / modeview pair that can be applied to your OpenGL state to place 3D objects correctly on the screen. You can adjust these matrices before using them, or use your own set (e.g. in a second rendering pass). Just keep in mind that QCAR's coordinate system is right-handed with Z up.

Hi Kim. Does that mean there exists a way to "manually" supply the necessary variables for QCAR to render graphics, as opposed to "automatically" supplying those variables via a trackable? If so, could you point me in the right direction to any documentation that might help us understand where those hooks are?

The QCAR SDK only provides support for image-based tracking, you would have to handle GPS or device sensor feedback yourself.

don't think so, GPS is not very precise for this kind of things
