Integration QCAR with another library to load .obj files

October 17, 2012 - 5:28am #1

I saw some post regarding this subject, but I did not see a convincing answer.

Does anybody tried to load .obj files instead of covert it to .h?

How can I do that?

Thanks.

I was able to successfully convert an obj file to a .h file.

First, I downloaded Blender 2.63 (find it on the blender site (https://download.blender.org/release/Blender2.63/), has to be specifically this version, not higher, not lower.

Then I downloaded a script from http://ksolek.fm.interiowo.pl/Blender/ (its at the bottom of the page). Place this script in you Blender addons folder.

Then once you have it in the addons folder, you need to enable it under User pref -> Addons -> Import/Export

Finally, it will show in the blender menu under export.

One note: an important alternative however is to use Unity, which also brings many other powerful 3D engine features (such as physics and ready-to-use nice graphics effects).

Vuforia does not enforce or suggests the use of anything beyond OpenGL, as this is a specific choice left up to the application developers.

You could try to integrate some 3D rendering/game engines that support OpenGL ES and have loaders for OBJ into your Vuforia application; I think there are some engines around like Ogre and OpenSceneGraph (but probably many others actually) that have been ported to OpenGL ES 2.0 and have nice mesh loaders (including OBJ).
