Layers in multiple image targets

April 25, 2012 - 9:27pm #1

Next question - is it possible to have a hierarchy with multiple image targets? For example, can I render a landscape with 1 image target and have a character rendered with a second image target stand on top of said landscape? I've tested it out and the character is always obscured by the landscape. I'm working in Unity, in a single scene, and can't seem to find layering options to always render the character as the top-most layer. Any advice?

Layers in multiple image targets

Hi ,

I have the same issue. Working on unity game engine.

Have you found any solution.

I want to use multiple image targets in scene. For example there is cube on one image target and there is sphere on other image target.

Tracking these two image target simultaneously but one image target always changes its position and rotation continuos. so I want to make both image target stable with no flicking issue of image target when there is more than 1 image target.

Please help

Hey Kim,

I forgot to mention that your suggestion worked. Thanks!

Thanks Kim, I'll give that a try. I should have mentioned that all of the trackables are the same dimensions in the file as in reality. There are 3 five star trackables at A4 size, and a smaller, 4 star trackable that is intended to interact with the AR in the five star scenes. As I stated earlier, the smaller trackable is always occluded. I'll give your suggestion a try and let you know how it goes.

You can always force the rendering order with Unity's render queue:

Are you rendering 2D images directly on the target?

Hello Kim,

I have each target as an individual parent; I haven't made Image Targets children of each other. I've tried a few different things, but the target I'm trying to get 'on top' of the others is always occluded. Most recently I tried tying the target in question to the AR camera via an empty game object, but that didn't work either. I'm not sure where to go from here.

Occlusion between targets should work correctly if the relative size of the targets in the editor matches the relative printed size of the targets. Note you shouldn't make one image target a child of another, they should all exist at the top level of the hierarchy.
