The gyro may be an option as well. But can you accomplish this using the target's position? If so try setting your WCM to NONE. This will make the ARCamera position the origin of your scene ( 0,0,0 ) and the target will move relative to that position. So you'll be able to determine the direction of movement when the target is being tracked.

Hey David,

The world center mode is USER & I would like to have only one target in the scene.

Let me explain about what i was trying to build.....i just wanna add the enemies in all the 4 directions +x,+y,-x & -y & the player position is stationary, the idea is to target the -x enemy when we device moves towards left & +x when the device moves righ

                                   1(+y)

                        (-x)4     0      2(+x)

                                   3(-y)

where, 0 is player camera & 1,2,3,4 are enemies.

If i use the main camera does using gyroscope do the trick....

Thanks :)

What is your World Center Mode setting, and what are you trying to accomplish?

If you need to manipulate the position of a camera, it may be better to use a standard Unity camera in the scene rather than the ARCamera. The ARCamera is needed to capture the correct perspective for the augmentation while tracking the target.
