Using frame markers

November 29, 2012 - 10:16am #1

Hey everybody,

I'm with 2 problem to use framemarkers and I hope that some one help me.

The first problem is about the resize, because the markers that I took on the package are too small (32pxx32px), and I want print it with 4 cm x 4 cm, but the quality is terrible, I vectorized the image to print it in the right size, but the tracking isn't working good, I don't know what is the better scale to use on the unity3D for representing the real image(4cm x 4cm).

Another point, I would to like the add some image and use the framemarker just on the border to do the tracking, is this approach right?

Thanks

The marker materials and textures in Unity are there to assist you when authoring the scene but they have no impact on the tracking. And yes the ID will correspond with the marker's value, so ID 1 = Value 1, ID 2 = Value 2, etc..

The transparent markers in the ZIP archive should scale for you, don't use the colored sample, that won't scale.

So to author a FrameMarker scene, add your FM prefab instances, set their ID's if you need to - they will increment automatically - and add your augmentations as children of the markers. Then you can build and run the scene.

Also FrameMarkers aren't as robust as a good ImageTarget, but they should perform well if the border is clearly presented.

Hi,

I downloaded the package of example "vuforia-framemarkers-ios-1-5-9.unitypackage", and on it all framemarkers are using the same material "framemarker_sample", and the unique difference is the Marker ID.  Is the relation with framemarker tracking just the Marked ID, on the unity allways will be the same material/texture the the tracking with Marked ID 0, tack the image "frameMarker_000.png", Marked ID 1 -> frameMarker_001.png... Is it right?

Thanks

Hi David,

Thanks for your answer, I did some tests with all trackings and all of then working great, but I had some problems to use the framework, I don't know if it's normal but the track don't work so good like the others. Maybe I'm doing some wrong, for each framemarker I created a new material and set one of this pngs that are on the FrameMarkerTextures. Other problem that I had was to print the framemarkers, on the folder FrameMarkerTextures the image are too small, then when I printed it (4cm x 4cm), the trackings was too pixeled.

Can you help with theses problems?

Thanks

There are 512 transparent FrameMarker PNG's in the Frame Marker Sample's Editor / QCAR /FrameMarkerTextures folder within the frame-markers-transparent.zip archive. You should be able to scale these to your requirements.

And yes, what you propose is the correct approach. You'll want to ensure that the frame markers border is apparent when overlaid on the image.
