Could not initialize the tracker!!!!! Fine on Android

November 26, 2012 - 2:51am #1

Sorry for posting this in Unity and iOS, i didnt see this section

So i built my project using Unity 3.5 and Xcode 4.5.3, works fine on Android/within the Unity editor and was working okay on iOS but has suddenly stopped working and I have no idea why, to my knowledge I havent changed anything that should effect it.

My issue:

Could not initialize the tracker

- Data set does not exist

Things I've already tried:

- checking all the data set is correct and the .dat/.xml is included within the xcode project

- make sure its only building for Armv7 and not Armv7s

Buit to several iOS devices and they all have the same issue, although the "data set does not exist" doesnt appear on some devices funnily enough but always crashes due to not being able to initialize the tracker.

Any help so i dont have to build my project from scratch again would be amazing and i would love you forever

Thanks

Jon

Hi

Its working fine on the ios. However, the plugin doesnt work on Android. Mainly because of the man.launcher problem. Can we have awork around to this

We do not have experience of this plugin, however if you want to try to get this to work you need to understand what is happening when Unity builds your XCode project - all the other information is below.

Unity provides a mechanism that uses a PostProcessBuildPlayer script to add to or modfiy the project that is created for XCode.  Vuforia uses this in order to build in the hooks that enable AR to beintegrated within Unity at runtime.

However, you may experience problems if you are using another plug-in, because sometimes these plugins do not play nicely together.  In this case you need to find a workaround, and in Lando1000's case it was by renaming one of the scripts which is found in assets/editor.

I found a fix , if you look at Prime31's postprocessor's bash script it searches for other post processors to add to theres when building and it does that by searching PostProcessorBuildPlayer_name, so i just changed vuforia's processor to PostProcessBuildPlayer_QCAR and then it was added into the build, job done, no conflicts, this is probably the solution to other Prime31 issues aswell!

Lando,

I know what the problem is :)

In AppController.mm there is no QCAR initialisation code so it's crashing because the app is trying to run without doing this.

This code is normally added by the PostProcessBuildPlayer, but in your case you have replaced this with a different one :O   Something that seems to take multiple PPBP scripts and combine them, but you must have overwritten the QCAR original one.

Low and behold, when I added the original QCAR PostProcessBuildPlayer, it built and ran.

It might be worth searching the forums for PostProcesBuildPlayer and Prime31 to see how others may have overcome this.

Could not initialize the tracker!!!!! Fine on Android

Ive checked and double checked all these things, its a straight Unity project, the only thing I do in xcode is add the Security.Framework otherwise it produces linker errors and I also have tried copy the .xml and .dat into the Copy Bundle Resources , I have also built an ad hoc build then opened the .ipa to make sure the assets were included. Like I said the data set error doesnt always appear but "trackable Myimage lost" and could not initialize tracker are constant.

Any other advice as Im quite lost on what to do and its the only thing stopping me from completing my project?! Im starting to rebuild the project from the ground up but I would like to stop this if i can find a soloution, would also be good to figure out for future reference.

Hi Jon,

"was working okay on iOS but has suddenly stopped working"

Normally when this happens, something has changed, possibly one of the tools (XCode, Unity version) or the version of the (i)OS.

I am not sure whether this is a straight Unity project or whether this is something where you are adding code in XCode?

"Dataset does not exist" normally means exactly this i.e. it cannot find it.

If you are building a straight Unity Project then all .dat and .xml files must be in the StreamingAssets/QCAR directory.

You might also want to check the following:

  • Click the AR Camera and then in Inspector under Data Set Load Behaviour (script) section, ensure that the relevant datasets are ticked.  If not they will not load.  Also make sure that the Activate Data Set dropdown shows which one you want to start with.
  • Next for each image target in the Unity scene make sure that in the inspector under Image Target Behaviour that the Data Set and Image Target are set correctly

Finally if you are modifying your XCode project or adding datasets to it, check the .dat and .xml are actually in Copy Bundle Resources - sometimes when you drag these to XCode from Finder they seem to not be included in the bundle.
